Hand Ranges Quick Start Guide
| PokerCruncher's
fully general hand
ranges feature and its hand
histograms, Deal-To-Flop and flop texture analysis, and many
additional stats features make it
the most
powerful and
general Texas Hold'em odds calculator in the App Store, and possibly
anywhere else (surpassing even PokerStove's
features). Poker is a game of incomplete information; you never know exactly what cards your opponents have. To take your game to the next level, you need to put your opponents on ranges of hands based on the information you've gotten, not just on specific cards or random cards. PokerCruncher lets you enter:
PokerCruncher's hand ranges feature is fully general and surpasses even PokerStove (the excellent Windows PC app). You construct hand ranges using a full grid of all 169 starting hands. You can tap and swipe the hand range grid cells to select/multi-select them, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. PokerCruncher has a "select top x% of hands" slider and extensive built-in hand ranges that you can use as building blocks (including the 8 Sklansky hand groups). You can select specific suits and hand combos (weights) in hand ranges, e.g. you can enter the hand range Ahxh (h=heart) instead of just Axs (s=suited). You can save and load hand ranges. And you can see range equity breakdown heat maps and hand combos stats (which even PokerStove doesn't have). Screenshot Example - "JJ+, AKs"Say you have QQ and raise preflop. A tight and solid player reraises you so you put him on a strong starting hand, say JJ+ or AK-suited. Let's say a third player also sees the flop, but this player is a loose maniac/gambler and can have just about any two random cards. The above situation is the 3-player example shown in the PokerCruncher screenshot on our home page (along with a J92 rainbow flop). The 1st picture on the right shows how you would construct the hand range "JJ+, AKs" for Player 2. Yellow cells are cells that have been added to the hand range. Orange cells are the currently selected cells. Light-green cells are cells that have been partially added by selecting a subset of suits (by tapping the Suits button). Full Grid Of All 169 Starting HandsPokerCruncher has a full grid of all 169 starting hands like PokerStove; no text entry of course. You can tap and swipe the hand range grid cells to select/multi-select them, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. In addition PokerCruncher has directional Select/Add/Add+/Remove buttons for selecting/adding/removing cells. Select Top X% Of Hands SliderThe 2nd picture on the right shows how you would select for example the top 10% of starting hands using the slider. You can use the 4 left/right/up/down arrow buttons to adjust the slider's value by the minimal amount. This makes it easier to set the exact desired %age value. Hand Range %age/Odds IndicatorThis %age, shown in the top right part of the hand range editor screen, shows the %age of all possible hole-card hands that are in the hand range, taking assigned and dead (non-live) cards into account. This is also the odds of the player getting a hand in the hand range. Save/Load/Export Hand RangesYou can save/load up to 100 hand ranges, and name them. The Save/Load buttons are under the Menu button. You can export hand ranges as text. Extensive Built-In Hand RangesPokerCruncher has the following built-in hand ranges that you can use as building blocks:
Also: The 8 Sklansky Hand Groups Are Built-In Hand RangesFor example the "JJ+, AKs" hand range in our screenshot examples is Sklansky Group 1, the 5 strongest starting hands. In addition we've added our own Group 1a consisting of the super-strong starting hands, AA and KK. The 4th picture on the right shows how you would select Sklansky Groups 1-3. You can select just one group or multiple groups. Select Suits And Hand Combos (Weights) In Hand RangesYou can do this using the Suits button. For example you can enter the hand range Ahxh (h=heart) instead of just Axs (s=suited) e.g. if the flop has exactly two hearts and you want to put a player on the (heart) nut flush draw. You can select any combination of suits. The 5th picture on the right shows how you would select Ahxh (h=heart). You can select specific suit and hand combinations for any of the 169 grid cells. Range Equity Breakdown Heat Maps And Hand Combos StatsSee the 6th and 7th pictures on the right for an example: Top50%OfHands vs. Top25%OfHands. The pictures shows the equity heat map and hand combos stats of Player 1 (Top50%OfHands). This feature lets you dig down into a range's overall equity and lets you see the equity of each hand in the range so you can detect useful patterns. Even PokerStove can't do this ... The breakdown is shown using a color-coded equity heat map. If you tap the "View Details" button you can see the specific equity and hand combos numbers for each cell and also a %age value for each cell that tells you what %age of the range the cell comprises (taking dead and already assigned cards into account). You can also see the number of hand combinations for each cell and for the entire range. Note that due to Monte Carlo (random sampling) simulation, each hand's (grid cell's) equity has a higher variance (margin of error) than the entire range's equity. You can set the Monte Carlo "Number Of Trials" setting to 2x or higher or Infinite to get a more accurate result. |
